Assault

The crimes of assault, assault and battery, and aggravated assault all involve intentional harm inflicted on one person by another. Any crime involving a physical attack (or even the threat of an attack) is usually classified as an assault, a battery, or both. And, depending on the seriousness of the attack (or the dangerousness of the weapon used), these acts can rise to the level of aggravated assault or mayhem. And it isn't just one-sided attacks that can constitute assault. Fighting can lead to an assault charge, even when two people can be said to have mutually agreed to fight.  Read more...

Theft

In common usage, theft is the taking of another person's property without that person's permission or consent with the intent to deprive the rightful owner of it.  The word is also used as an informal shorthand term for some crimes against property, such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, robbery, shoplifting, library theft and fraud.

DUI

California has two basic drunk driving laws, It is a misdemeanor to drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs; and it is a misdemeanor to drive with .08% or more of alcohol in your blood.

The DUI can be charged as a felony under the "felony DUI" provisions where an injury results from the drunk driving, and the crime of "vehicular manslaughter" can be charged where there is a death. Read more...

Violations of Probation

Breaking the law while on probation can cause you twice the amount of trouble. Not only is it a probation violation, but it also opens a new criminal case against you, separate from the violation charge. You will face both a probation violation hearing and charges for the new crime.

If you or a loved one is facing probation violation charges, talk with a criminal defense lawyer to discuss your options.

Drug Offenses

In the United States, illegal drugs are related to crime in multiple ways. Most directly, it is a crime to possess, manufacture, or distribute drugs classified as having a potential for abuse (such as cocaine, heroin, morphine and amphetamines). Drugs are also related to crime as drug trafficking and drug production.
